International Children's day

Teah Mogae

We lose ourselves in books.. We find ourselves there too - unknown -

The books we grow up with can actually influence who and what we become in the future ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ.

I remember being facinated by an old and probably outdated medical text book my parent's had around the house and thinking, maybe one day the medical language would make sense to me๐Ÿ˜œ. In highschool my career choices got influenced mostly by my friends' choices ๐Ÿ˜Š. At some point I considered doing IT ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿ’ป and actuarial science๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿซ as I was good with numbers and a bit nerdy๐Ÿค“. My grandpa's sudden illness, I found me drawn again to that medical textbook ๐Ÿ“˜ as I thought it probably had all the answers the doctors needed to fix him ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ข. With that, my need to learn medicine and love for what eventually became my career was born ๐Ÿ˜Š. I will never know if I could have been great in IT or whatever else I had dreamt of, but I am certainly happy with what and who I have become.

To celebrate International Children's ๐Ÿ“š day this past Tuesday 2 April, I encourage you to spend time reading to/for/with the little ones in your life and enrich their lives with the wide variety of books and languages on offer. You never know what lifelong passion you might sow the seeds for๐ŸŒฑ
